window of opportunity

We haven't been able to hang shades in these kitchen windows because the inside casing was in this funny curved pattern that made it impossible to screw brackets into. So while G was out of town, I decided it was finally time to replace the casing.

What a pain.

Because the windows weren't set deep enough into the wall, or because things have shifted over the years, or possibly because the frame just happens to be fat, the replacement casing that I bought didn't quite line up with the outer molding. So I had to tear all the molding off and shim it about an eight of an inch away from the wall.

Did I mention this was a big pain?

Of course, if you're going to go to the trouble of tearing out molding and putting in new casings and painting it all, you might as well paint the entire kitchen so as to finally get rid of that shiny peach color that has been getting on your nerves for two years. You can't so much see the difference here, but trust me -- it's a huge improvement.
