A while back, we planted an alstroemeria over in the side of the yard, without really knowing whether it was going to survive in the tar-like substance that passes for soil around here. Two years, later and the thing has not only thrived, it has taken over that part of the yard.
In fact, we're starting to get a little worried. The first photo above shows what a normal alstroemeria stalk looks like. The second photo? That's a freakish mutation. It's like it's growing its own electrical cabling. And there's another one sprouting nearby!
If it starts to glow at night, we're moving.
