trellis with spikes holding it to wallpower hammer with spikes and shot

tools you didn't know you needed

Back when we were laying a brick patio, we bought a power hammer to help attach the redwood patio border to the underlying concrete pad. The power hammer is basically a tube into which you place a .22-caliber shot and a metal spike. Give the end a sharp whack with a mallet and the spike fires into whatever you've got it aimed at. (Note that this tool is made by Remington, the firearm manufacturer.)

The power hammer worked great for the patio border -- but we didn't think we'd ever need it again. Then we noticed that the honeysuckle against our garage had grown so heavy that it was falling over with its trellis. Normally, you'd just nail the trellis to the wall. But our garage wall is made from stucco. So out came the power hammer.

As you can see in the photo, it's not the most elegant solution, but the honeysuckle should hide the end of the spikes pretty soon. And that trellis isn't going anywhere.
